This is amazing! The image is way too large to post, so be sure to click on this link on a big monitor.
I'm excited for the first storm of the season to clear away all the smog and give us in LA a brief window to look at the stars. I think I'll make it up to the Griffith Observatory sometime soon.

The Prescott Family: Sex
Hello,
If you are in the mood for a quaint-yet-potent art community, look into The Prescott Family. They are an artist collective born in the San Gabriel Valley some odd years ago. Today, many members live throughout the western US coast, reaching far as northern Washington, into Portland, San Fransisco, and down to the roots in Los Angeles. The group produces a unique variety of eclectic handmade music and art. I was lucky enough to have good friendships within the group and collaborate a handful of times.
If you want a recent sampler of their work, check out their new e-zine compilation released today:

Support some local handmade creativity. It will do you some good.

The Gentlest Gentleman
It's nice to see and hear a classic performing presence. An instrument so small and a girl far from tall can sing a song with a timeless appeal. She collaborated and sung many songs on The Decemberists' recent rock opera album, The Hazards of Love. She is currently touring with them, though will sadly skip over LA. I hope to catch her live again when she visits town.

Dreams of Flying
Jan von Holleben is a photographer from Cologne, Germany. He often works out of London.

Here are some photos from one of his series
titled "Dreams of Flying".
I like it. They are simple and well composed. Fun cheap camera tricks that really rekindle that childhood dream.
You can find the rest of his series on his website @ http://www.janvonholleben.com/?page_id=4

The Kuroshio Sea
Kuroshio Sea - 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world - (song is Please don't go by Barcelona) from Jon Rawlinson on Vimeo.
Let it finish loading before you push play. Watch it in the dark, full sized on the biggest screen you have available. It's breathtaking.
It reminds me of futuristic cars going down the skylanes at various altitudes in sci-fi movies, but in a nice cerulean outer space. Everything is so graceful: the little fish, the manta rays, the whale sharks, even the scuba diver. The song ("Please Don't Go" by Barcelona) is a little cheesy, but it works. I would have chosen a song with an epic feel by Sigur Rรณs or M83. What would you have chosen?
